Starboarded

Listen sailor, you know how the world works: it’s 3392 and we’ve achieved an incredible level of peace and prosperity here on Earth. There are no hungry or poor, and there haven’t been any wars in hundreds of years… but we’re out of resources. You’re to head up the first expedition to venture through our portal technology onto unknown worlds and bring back the things we need particularly for medical and humanitarian applications: you remember how those extreme storms tore through the south Austrillippesian islands. 

There’s a catch, though. Hulls made of conductive metal don’t seem to allow the crew to survive the portal trip so we’re sending you in an outfitted vessel our ancestors used for exploration. It’s probably perfectly safe. You can use the metals you find to upgrade your ship because the electrocution-event problem only happens upon entry of a portal, not upon re-entry coming back. 

We’re counting on you, sailor. Get to it.
